Scholastic Honor Code

SCHOLASTIC HONOR CODE

I. The verbiage of this code deals specifically with cheating, attempted cheating, plagiarism, lying, and stealing. Instances of cheating, attempted cheating, plagiarism, lying and/or theft perpetrated by a student will constitute a violation of the Scholastic Honor Code and subject the student to immediate termination from his/her academic program and the forfeiture of all tuition funds.

A. Cheating encompasses the following:
1. The willful giving or receiving of an unauthorized, unfair, dishonest, or unscrupulous advantage in academic work over other students.
2. The above may be accomplished by any means whatsoever, including but not limited to the following: fraud; duress; deception; theft; trick; talking; signs; gestures; copying from another student; unauthorized use of study aids, memoranda, books, data, or other information; and the unauthorized access of computer-based information.
3. Attempted cheating.

B. Plagiarism encompasses the following:
1. Presenting as one's own the words, the work, or the opinions of someone else without proper acknowledgment.
2. Borrowing the sequence of ideas, the arrangement of material, or the pattern of thought of someone else without proper acknowledgment.

C. Lying encompasses the following: The willful and knowledgeable telling of an untruth, as well as any form of deceit, attempted deceit, or fraud in an oral or written statement relating to academic work or institutional form. This includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Lying to administration and faculty members.
2. Falsifying any institutional document by mutilation, addition, or deletion.

D. Stealing encompasses the following: Taking or appropriating without the permission to do so, and with the intent to keep or to make use of wrongfully, property belonging to the institution, including the acquiring of unjustified program or graduation materials by means of deception.

II. Students are responsible for understanding the provisions of and abiding by the Scholastic Honor Code. As part of program indoctrination prior to beginning his/her initial course of study, each student will sign an affirmation of the Code stating that he/she has read, has understood and indeed undertakes to abide by the Scholastic Honor Code.

III. The provisions of the Scholastic Honor code shall be applied to the ongoing elationship between the student/graduate and the institution in perpetuity. Should it be discovered (even after graduation) that a program participant violated the provisions of the Scholastic Honor code during his/her program tenure or has committed a violation after his/her graduation (such as falsification of institutional records and documents, which are then published – as genuine – to a third party), the institution shall reserve the right to revoke and render void any and all credentials (including the high school proficiency diploma and transcripts) issued to that individual.

IV. It will be the responsibility of the office of the Principal to investigate and render a decision in all cases of suspected violations of the Scholastic Honor Code. Violators will face only one possible penalty: immediate expulsion from all academic programs / immediate revocation of any and all issued credentials and the forfeiture of all tuition fees.

V. Students expelled /Graduates with credentials revoked for violation of the Scholastic Honor Code will be notified of the Principal's decision in writing via certified U.S. Mail.

VI. Students expelled /Graduates with credentials revoked for violation of the Scholastic Honor Code will be entitled to a single appeal. Such appeals will be addressed in writing to the Principal, Continental Academy 15327 NW 60th Ave, Room 235, Miami Lakes, FL 33014. A written request for appeal must be postmarked no more than thirty (30) days after the date of the certified mailing of the notification of expulsion/revocation of credentials.

VII. The Principal shall review all pertinent documentation, consulting will all parties as necessary. The Principal will render a decision within thirty (30) days of receipt of the written-notice of appeal. The Principal will inform all parties of his/her decision in writing, delivered by registered U.S. mail within thirty (30) days of rendering his decision.

Refund Policy

SCHOOL REFUND POLICY: 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE: Continental Academy will refund your money in full if you are not completely satisfied with your academic program within the first 30 days of enrollment. Continental Academy has designed a 30 Day Money-Back Guarantee to provide the student ample time to review our online program and make sure that the student is completely satisfied. If for any reason, you wish to cancel your enrollment agreement within 30 days after the date of enrollment, you will receive a full refund providing you have not yet received your Continental Academy high school proficiency diploma. If you cancel after 30 days of enrollment, a refund will not be awarded. All refund requests must be submitted in writing.

Terms and Conditions of Enrollment

Student must be 16 years of age or older to enroll. If the student is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian signature of approval is required. Parents of students under the age of 18 are responsible to comply with the "Compulsory School Attendance Laws" in the state where the student resides.

FEES: Continental Academy will consider any student account that is 60 days past due a matter of collections resulting in a $25.00 late fee charged to the account and the account may be referred to a collections agency. A $59.00 graduation fee that includes the shipping and handling of the student diploma, diploma cover, wallet size diploma, and official graduation letter will be billed to the student account. The graduation fee may be paid at any time during the course of an academic program. After you graduate and receive your high school proficiency diploma, you may request an official transcript of your grades to be mailed to your home, employer or institution of choice. The transcript fee is $25.00 per transcript.

DISCLOSURE: Continental Academy's academic program has been designed specifically for students who need an opportunity to earn a high school proficiency diploma for private sector jobs that require proof of high school proficiency, or, students who desire an opportunity to obtain a high school proficiency diploma for self-improvement and/or personal satisfaction. Our program is not designed for college admissions, military enlistment, or for government/public sector employment. Please be advised that Continental Academy's academic program is not a college-prep program that prepares students for admissions requirements of a college/university/trade school and is not a high school completion program that prepares students for educational enlistment requirements of the U.S. Military. Continental Academy's academic program and this diploma may not be accepted by all educational institutions or employers as evidence of a high school education or diploma. Continental Academy's academic program and diploma are not a high school equivalency credential and may not be accepted by every college, university, educational institution, or employer as evidence of high school completion. Students are encouraged to check with any college, educational institution, or employer they are considering to determine whether the program and diploma meet their specific requirements. This diploma is not accepted as evidence of high school completion by any branch of the United States Military.

Please be advised that the decision to recognize or accept Continental Academy's high school proficiency diploma or any other diploma that you have earned is always the prerogative of the receiving institution in the United States. The decision to recognize or accept a diploma credential is usually based on the admissions requirements of the college or the employment policy of the employer. Continental Academy makes no representation that its academic program and this diploma will be recognized or accepted by all colleges or employers or that you will be guaranteed a job after graduating from Continental Academy. Continental Academy makes no representation of any kind concerning the fitness of its curriculum to meet any legal, educational, certification, licensing, or employment requirements.

Continental Academy is accredited by the National Association for the Legal Support of Alternative Schools (N.A.L.S.A.S.). The National Association for the Legal Support of Alternative Schools is not recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Florida Department of Education. Note: The U.S. Department of Education does not have the authority to accredit private or public elementary or secondary schools, and the Department does not recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of private or public elementary and secondary schools. However, the U.S. Department of Education does recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of institutions of higher (postsecondary) education. If an accrediting body which is recognized by the Department for higher education also accredits elementary and secondary schools, the Department's recognition applies ONLY to the agency's accreditation of postsecondary institutions. The National Association for the Legal Support of Alternative Schools ONLY provides accreditation to private alternative schools at the K-12 level and the U.S. Department of Education does not recognize accrediting bodies for the accreditation of private or public elementary and secondary schools at the K-12 level. The Florida Department of Education does not accredit, regulate, approve, or license private schools. Additionally, the Florida Department of Education does not officially recognize any of the various agencies that accredit private schools. The acceptance of diplomas from private schools will be subject to the requirements of the receiving educational institution or employer. For these reasons, besides ascertaining the accredited status of a school or program, students should take additional measures to determine, prior to enrollment, whether their educational or employment goals will be met through enrollment at Continental Academy. Those measures should include inquiries to prospective educational institutions or employers.
